Who is Scubatony?

My name is Tony and I am the owner/operator of ScubaTony Cozumel. I used to be a police officer in Los Angeles, California and one day I learned to scuba dive. It took me about a month to decide that there was more to life than being a cop in L.A. Five months later I quit my 11 year career with the LA county sheriff's deptartment and went on walkabout. After my travels, I landed on Cozumel with one bag of dive gear and little else. I didn't know much about the island nor did I have any friends here but it took me less than a week to fall in love with this island and its people. It is absolutely beautiful here and the diving is some of the best in the world. It is the ideal place to learn to dive and to keep coming back once you get hooked like me.

Since my first Open Water Certification in 1999, I have been diving every chance I get. I love the warm clear waters of Cozumel and have experience in lakes, rivers, caves, caverns, and many of the oceans and seas of the planet. I enjoy warm water and cold, salt and fresh in all kinds of conditions. I am a certified PADI instructor and can teach many specialties (including Nitrox). I am also a certified cave diver and cavern guide.

I believe that passion for something makes you a better teacher. Diving is something I am truly excited about and I am sure that you will be too. There is no way you could truly understand the sea unless you have lived and breathed below the surface. I look forward to showing you the world below the waves and know that you will fall in love with this incredible environment as well.

My name is Dennis and I am a dive-aholic. In my past life, I was a packaging engineer in Dallas, Texas. Scubatony certified me about 5 years ago for open water. Since then I have spent as much time in the water as possible. I came back to Cozumel year after year for all my vacations. My addiction got so bad that I did all my dive training with PADI then unloaded my business in Dallas. I sold all my stuff and packed up my minivan and moved to Cozumel. Now I am Tony's right hand in the business of showing people a great time underwater. I love the diving here and the island lifestyle. There are very few feelings better than showing our guests the underwater world.  I love the light in their eyes as they experience it for the 1st or the 100th time.  Come to our island and let us show you why we love it so much.  

You will also get to meet Carlos, (aka Papo) our boat captain. He has over 18 years of experience operating different dive boats in Cozumel. He is a human GPS and knows the reefs here better than anyone. He is always there to help out. He watches the bubble and keeps us safe during the dive, then is there to change out your tank and check your gear when you come up. Carlos is first to offer a fresh shower or a cold drink to make sure you are comfortable. We are very proud to have such a great boat captain to round out the Scubatony service above and below the water.
